BioImages 2016 – Become Inspired
This year we received 199 entries from photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and illustrators in 8 countries. Thank you to all our entrants and congratulations to all of the winners. You gave our judges an enjoyable and challenging job!
BioImages is a tough competition for extraordinary visual communications in science and medicine. There were 7 Awards of Excellence, 12 Citations of Merit, and 6 sponsored Merit Awards and a total of 97 entries chosen for the Salon.
Best of Show
Selected from the Awards of Excellence, Jonathan Bowen's natural science illustration, Lifecycle of Basidiomycota (Mycena haematopus) was awarded Best of Show along with $500 cash award. Jonathan also received the Canadian Founders Award for this entry.
BCA Medical Education Awards
Albert Sim received the BCA Medical Education Award - Still Media Division for his ophthalmic photograph, Bullous retinal detachment.
Lydia Gregg, MA, CMI, FAMI, entered her medical illustration, Causes of Ischemia and stroke in the lower thoracic and lumbar spinal cord, and won the BCA Medical Education Award – Graphic Media Division.
Adrianna Lippy, BSc, MSc, was awarded the BCA Medical Education Award - Motion Media Division, for her video, Acute Inflammation.
Charles Foster Memorial Citation
Norm Barker, MA, MS, RBP, FBCA, FRPS, was awarded the Charles Foster Memorial Citation for his photomicrograph, Dinosaur Bone.
