Maria Ikenberg Lindberg Keynote Address Will Wilson, Diné photographer

AIR 1 © Will Wilson

Will Wilson is a photographic artist and an educator and is Program Head of Photography, Santa Fe Community College.

Will Wilson's art projects center around the continuation and transformation of customary indigenous cultural practice. He is a Diné photographer and trans-customary artist who spent his formative years living on the Navajo Nation. With his lens based artistry Wilson challenges the traditional portrayal of the indigenous North American image and reclaims it for modern generations. He will focus on two of his current projects, the Auto Immune Response (AIR) project and his Critical Indigenous Photographic Exchange (CIPX).

Wilson studied photography, sculpture, and art history at the University of New Mexico (MFA, Photography, 2002) and Oberlin College (BA, Studio Art and Art History, 1993).

More information about Will Wilson can be found at https://willwilson.photoshelter.com.

The Maria Ikenberg Lindberg Keynote Address is an endowed lectureship, in the memory of Maria (Ikenberg) Lindberg. This opening address at the BCA annual meeting will inspire and set the tone for the meeting. Learn more about one of BCA's pioneers Maria Ikenberg Lindberg.

Gale Spring, FBPA to deliver the Anne Shiras Pioneer Lecture

For over 40 years, Gale has witnessed the impact and challenges of technology on the interpretation of images. As he was completing his masters degree at the University of North Texas in 1977, Gale was offered the unique opportunity to re-configure and expand the Pathology Department at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas. For 11 years Gale worked as the Director of Photographic Services and also for the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science. During that time, he also produced and directed the annual Medical Photography Workshop that involved several BPA members as workshop presenters.

In 1988, Gale made a giant leap moving from Dallas, Texas to Melbourne, Australia to become Senior Lecturer and Program Leader of the Scientific Photography program at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). Gale retired in 2013 as the Deputy Dean in the School of Science but remains an Adjunct Professor. He continues teaching, conducting workshops and consulting on forensic imaging cases. His interests still lay in the interpretation of photographic imaging in forensic matters.

The Anne Shiras Pioneer Lecture is an endowed lectureship, in the memory of Anne Shiras.
