Media Production/Services Specialist

BCA is hiring! Come join our Team!

The BCA has a paid position open for a Director of Communications. Karen Hensley, our current Director, is available to answer any questions regarding this position and assist you with getting started. This position becomes available January 1, 2018.

The Director of Communications works under the direction of the Executive Board of the BCA and is responsible for assisting with developing and implementing communication plans for the association, managing the production of the BCA News, maintenance and update of the website, public relations messages, meeting promotions, and social media. In addition, all expenses are paid to attend the annual BIOCOMM meeting.

Primary responsibilities include the solicitation and production of the online content of the website that engages members in participating in meaningful ways such as Tips and Techniques articles, additions to the BCA YouTube channel, BioImages awards, and more. Manage the production of the BCA News, including soliciting articles, membership information, BIOCOMM activities, and reports to the board. Coordinate with the Director of Conferences to publish and promote pre and post annual meeting information in a timely manner.

Forensic Specialist - Crime Scene Investigation

Under general supervision, incumbents in this class provide a full range of photographic services, including forensic and autopsy photographs, aerial photography and processing crime scenes for fingerprints and other physical evidence. Ophthalmic Photographer
Mayo Clinic – Rochester, MN

The Clinical Research Ophthalmic Photographer performs ophthalmic photography, imaging, and ocular and vision measurements for clinical research protocols in the Department of Ophthalmology. The majority of the photographer's time is spent in direct patient care using cameras, ultrasound and other ophthalmic equipment, and managing and organizing the data collected. Requires two years photography experience or a degree in photography; ophthalmic photography experience preferred.

Medical Photographer
Womack Army Medical Center – Fort Bragg, NC

Provide photomicrographs and gross photographic services. Finished products are used for lectures, exhibits, publications, teaching, legal problems, consultation, and progress reports. Work from specimens submitted with work requests, or by conferring with individual pathologists on requirements. Make black-and-white arid color photomicrographs utilizing microscopes with magnification from 4x to 2000x. Examine specimen to determine photographic requirements.

Electron Microscopy Technician
The Scripps Research Institute – La Jolla, CA

The Electron Microscopy Technician will assist with the operations of a state-of-the-art, multi-user Electron Microscopy Laboratory at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI). Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Assist with Electron Microscopy (EM) operations and instrument maintenance to ensure the facility runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Undertake projects or tasks related to electron microscopy.
  • Provide training on the operation of the electron microscopes to TSRI scientists, faculty and staff.
  • Maintain the electron microscopes and associated equipment, changing filaments, troubleshooting problems and assuring instrument integrity by arranging for service or by providing solutions. Oversee operation of transmission and scanning electron microscopes and maintenance of ancillary equipment, including QC, validation, and day-to-day operation.

Biomedical Photographer (part time)
University of Massachusetts – Worcester, MA

We are seeking a technically oriented individual to take responsibility for day-to-day operation of our light microscopy imaging core facility on a part time basis. Current instruments include an OMX V4 super-resolution microscope, Nikon A1 confocal microscope, and custom built multiphoton microscope, an Olympus TIRF system, and a number of semi-automated bright field microscopes. Responsibilities include training new users, qualifying users to operate instruments independently, performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting problems reported by users, performing repairs where possible (e.g. laser module replacement), and scheduling service/repairs with manufacturers as required. Extensive microscopy experience, while desirable, is not essential. Good computer skills, organizational skills, facility with one-on one training, and technical literacy and an interest in instrumentation are essential. A foundation in biology is a plus.

Directs, manages and plans activities for the medical photography unit. Consults with and advises medical department head regarding photographic operations and processes relating to programs and research. Directs the maintenance of records and the preparation of reports. Maintains liaison with various professional staff and directs the preparation of teaching materials, including photomicrographs, graphic and other technical photographic representations.
