Directly following BIOCOMM 2023 there will be a post-conference workshop on May 19. Continue the networking with colleagues in a more relaxed and informal atmosphere, while still continuing to reap the educational benefits of photography in the field.
We will travel in convoy to to Abiquiu where we will tour O'Keeffe's home and studio. Then on to Ghost Ranch to photograph the colorful and unusual landscapes made famous by Georgia O’Keeffe.
After the tours there will be plenty of time to immerse yourself with your camera and sketchbooks in these amazing landscapes and in the village of Abiquiu. This special environment lends itself to all types of photography ranging from colour, infrared through photomacrography. You are only limited by your imagination.
There is an additional fee for the Post-Conference Workshop.
Georgia O'Keeffe was an influential artist who took inspiration for her work from the New Mexico landscape. She is widely known for her larger than life paintings of flowers.
The Georgia O'Keeffe landscape tour is a narrated journey into the red hills and colorful cliffs that Georgia O'Keeffe painted while living at Ghost Ranch. The guide will show you reproduction of paintings close to the actual painting sites as well as drive by her Ghost Ranch house. Although this house has never been open to the public, the view of the adobe in its high desert setting is soul inspiring.
The Abiquiu Home and Studio offers a special look into the life of one of America’s greatest artists. It offers viewers a chance to see the home, which was her vision. Throughout the property one can see and feel the time and love O’Keeffe dedicated to this special property in a very special town, Abiquiu.
At the end of the day we will re-group back at the Drury Plaza Hotel in Santa Fe to conclude the workshop with a group photographic critique of selected images taken on the day.
An additional Post-Conference Workshop fee will include the Ghost Ranch landscape tour and O'Keeffe home and studio tour. You will need to provide own lunch and transportation. Car pooling may be available on request. There are cafes in Ghost Ranch and Abiquiu.
