Inclusion into BioImages is by juried acceptance. A panel of 4 judges with a wide range of knowledge, skills and aesthetics forms the BioImages’ jury pool. Judges are invited for two
year terms and roll off in alternating years.
Submissions are evaluated independently on a scale of 1 (lowest) to 5 (highest) using the following criteria:
Judging Criteria
Intent - How well does the work communicate to the intended audience?
Technical Execution - How good is the accuracy, technical difficulty, quality, originality, manner and level of execution of the submission? Does the piece demonstrate
effective problem solving?
Visual Design - How are the aesthetics, layout, and composition of the piece?
Impact - Does the piece make a strong impression and is an outstanding interpretation of the subject?
Inclusion in the BioImages Exhibition
Images with an average judging score of 3 or higher will receive a Merit Award and will be included in the Exhibition.
