This photopgraph features a reflected-light image of a broad-armed dendrite snowflake. On top of the snowflake, two additional smaller plate snowflakes can be seen. The reflected-light technique reveals the surface topography of the snowflake. In the center, faint colours can be seen, evoked by optical interference between multiple layers of ice created by trapped air pockets.

Purpose
The purpose of this work was inspried by curiosity, and designed to further my exploration of scientific-related imagery. The audience would be the general population with an interest in science and/or photography.

Technique
Hand-held high-magnification photography with reflected light / focus stacking
