Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) with Calcinosis

Juvenile Dermatomyositis (JDM) is an autoimmune disease - affecting approximately 1:3,000,000 children per year. In childhood it affects the muscles and joints. Now aged 72 years, calcinosis present in this patient's arms limits his mobility.

PURPOSE

Photographs were taken of this patient to demonstrate the calcinosis and sarcoma for the patient's healthcare record and for referral at the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meeting. The patient was keen for his images to be used to demonstrate the clinical presentation to health professionals. He also wanted the images to be used to inform other patients and their families and to raise awareness of this rare autoimmune disease.
