Mosquitos - Close up

Nov 16, 2021

The art includes details specified by the author and art director and some which I chose to add. I chose the species to illustrate. Views were chosen in consultation with the art director. I edited and condensed descriptions into visual language. Details include full lateral view anatomy, the mechanism of a mosquito bite, the resulting tissue changes below the skin surface as a welt develops, the anatomy of the female mosquito's mouth-parts and the female's method of laying eggs on the surface of a container of water.

PURPOSE

I was commissioned to do this piece for a small format conservation publication, the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer Magazine has 115,000 subscribers and an estimated readership of nearly a half million.
