Passing of Emeritus Member Gene McDermott, RBP, FBPA

The BCA regrets to announce the passing of Emeritus Member Eugene (Gene) E. McDermott, RBP, FBPA (86 yrs.), on March 9, 2024, in Surprise, Arizona.
Gene began his photographic career on a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier. He returned to New York City and took a photographic position at Belleview Hospital. He met the BCA at a NYC Chapter meeting on January 28,1968. There he began several lifelong friendships.
He held positions at several medical centers in NYC and at Stony Brook University. He served at both the Chapter and international levels, finally serving as chapter chairman of the NYC Chapter.
He heard the “Go west” call in 1979 and Tucson was his first stop.
When the M 6.7 Northridge earthquake in 1994 destroyed his home, Gene moved his family back to the Phoenix, AZ area where he retired.
He leaves his wife, Eileen; two daughters, Cathleen (De la Torre), Colleen (Ma); and son, Michael McDermott. They have a total of 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, and many friends.
A service is planned at the National Memorial Cemetery, Phoenix on May 6th.
